Peru

Peru is located to the Northwest of South America with an area of 1285215.6 square km bordered by Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile. A large portion of the Andes mountain range is in Peru, which has created a completely different type of wildlife with many endemic species.

Peru Andes is undesirable one of the more beautiful places in the planet. The amazing cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra provide amazing landscape and unique places for photography.

Cuzco-Manu

Day 0: Arrival in Lima
Arrival and overnight stay near the airport.
Rest & gear prep.

Day 1: Fly to Cusco – Welcome Dinner
Cultural introduction to Inca capital.
Cityscapes, street photography, optional local birds.

Days 2–3: Hummingbird Gardens & Cloud Forest Lodges
Visit Encifera Camp and Ipal Lodge for highland hummingbirds.

Afternoon at Tunkawasi for tanagers and foliage-gleaners.

 Targets:

Giant Hummingbird, Sword-billed Hummingbird, White-tufted Sunbeam, Violet Starfrontlet, Versicolored Barbet, Blue Dacnis, Saffron-crowned Tanager, Andean Motmot.

Day 4: Abra Málaga & El Molino
Birding high-elevation puna and elfin forest.
Targets:

Andean Ibis, Blue-backed & Olivaceous Thornbills, Cusco Brushfinch, Rust-and-yellow Tanager, Mountain Finch, Flowerpiercers.

Days 5–6: Machu Picchu & Ollantaytambo
Visit one of the New Seven Wonders with chances to photograph Inca ruins and Andean species.
Targets:

Bearded Mountaineer, Green-and-white Hummingbird, Golden-billed Saltator, Trainbearers, American Kestrel.

Day 7: Pisac Sacred Garden – Paucartambo
Birding en route through dry intermontane valleys.
Targets:

Bearded Mountaineer, Giant Hummingbird, endemic finches and brush-finches.

Day 8: Wayqecha 
Transition from Andes to Amazon begins. Visit cloud forest lodges with world-class feeders.
Targets:

Gould’s Inca, Scaled Metaltail, Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, Inca Jay, Black-throated Tody-Tyrant, Versicolored Barbet.

Day 9: Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge – Manu Road
Birding the world-famous Manu Road.
Targets:

Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Rufous-crested Coquette, Slaty Tanager, Silver-beaked Tanager, Blue-necked Tanager.

Days 10–11: Pilcopata Lowlands & Feeders
Two days of intensive photography at tropical lowland feeders.
Targets:

King Vulture, Amazonian Antpitta, Rufous-crested Coquette, Buff-tailed Sicklebill, Sapphire-spangled Emerald, Gould’s Jewelfront, Green-and-gold Tanager, Blue-headed Macaw.

 Specialties:

Bamboo endemics like Peruvian Recurvebill, Dusky-cheeked Foliage-gleaner, and Bamboo Antshrike.

Manakins, cotingas, antbirds, and nunlets.

Day 12: Return to Paucartambo
Morning photography at Pilcopata before scenic drive back.
Opportunities for landscape and roadside birds.

Day 13: Lagoons & Puerto Maldonado
Morning at Andean lagoons; fly to lowland Amazon.
Targets:

Torrent Duck, Yellow-billed Teal, Andean Lapwing, waterfowl.

Day 14: Macaw Clay Lick – Tambopata
Visit the world-famous macaw clay lick on the Tambopata River.
Targets:

Scarlet Macaw, Red-and-green Macaw, Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Mealy Parrot, Orange-cheeked Parrot, White-eyed Parakeet.

Day 15: Tambopata Canopy Tower & Forest Trails
Morning from the canopy tower; forest trails in the afternoon.
Targets:

White-necked Puffbird, Gilded Barbet, Curl-crested Aracari, Tanagers, Woodpeckers, Trogons.

Day 16: Fly back to Lima – Departure
Photo Tour Features
Habitats: Cloud forest, Andean puna, humid lowland rainforest

Access: Feeders, forest hides, canopy towers, riverside photography

Species count: 500+ potential, including many endemics and rarities

Lens tips: 100–400mm for general use, 500–600mm for canopy/macaws, macro for herps/insects
